7 Best Cafes in Chiang Mai for Co-Working

Chiang Mai.

The city’s easy going culture, cheap accommodation, beautiful surroundings, phenomenal food scene and (most importantly) exceptional coffee makes it one of my favorite places to visit while in Asia. What really puts the foam on my latte though is how digital nomad friendly the city is. Fast WiFi, relaxed vibes and chill tunes always squeezes out my creative juices.

Just what you need while slaving away in front of your laptop.

So let’s explore!

Where To Work Remotely In Chiang Mai

Working remotely sometimes isn’t the easiest. You have a pressing project to complete and you just can’t quite cultivate a good workflow. At times, the inside of your hotel room can feel like it’s closing in on you, making you feel like a vampire.

Maybe you can’t seem to escape the constant interruptions of your hostel roommates or, worse, you can’t connect to good WiFi. Well, what better motivation than to explore a new work space!

Let’s head out into the city and discover some of the wide-ranging cafes Chiang Mai has to offer.

1. Ombra Caffé

An alluring place with dark decor creating a modern vibe. The menu is very interesting with a wide selection of juices, great coffee and cakes to choose from. The cappuccino was one of the best I’ve had in Chiang Mai…a little slow to get to me but it was definitely worth the wait! 

The seating is great, a mix of stools, long tables and leather armchairs sure to keep your derrière happy. The cafe offers strong WiFi with plenty of outlets to charge your dying devices. They also close late at 10 p.m., which is perfect for you night owls!

The best part though? When you’ve finally finished with the last of your daily emails, they serve a selection of beers to celebrate. 

2. Terracotta Garden - Clay Studio Coffee

🎶 Music: Matches the vibe set by the beautiful gardens

Tranquil gardens mixed with beautiful terracotta sculptures and a relaxing atmosphere, what more can you ask for, really? Perhaps good coffee? 

Don’t despair. The Terracotta staff have your back. The coffee is awesome and the menu includes freshly baked pastries, cakes and an extensive selection of breakfast and lunch options. While there is limited power outlets available, the WiFi is good. If your devices are charged and ready for a few hours of work, it’s definitely worth sitting out in the gardens.

Terracotta Gardens shut their doors at 4 p.m., making it a great spot for breakfast or lunch. 

3. No.39 Cafe

Embrace Thailand’s beautiful countryside without travelling to far out of central Chiang Mai. No.39 Cafe is situated upon a serene lake, offering scenic views as you relax in the charming gardens. Choose from a thoughtfully constructed drinks menu that offers great coffee and a selection of juices and smoothies. The food menu includes burgers and numerous local dishes.

There are many seating options to choose from. Indoors offers modern, spacious feels with big glass windows to take in the views. Outside you will find plenty of lounges and Thai cushions to relax on while you take in the countryside sights. The WiFi is good, outlets are a little limited but not impossible to find.

4. The Larder Cafe and Bar

🍔 Food: Not going to lie, it’s damn good!

💰 Pricing: Reasonable

🎶 Music: Airy and relaxing

🛋️ Seating: Comfortable indoor and outdoor seating

The Larder Cafe and Bar is a must in Chiang Mai. Offering a great atmosphere, an extensive choice of food and drinks and large opening hours. The staff are very welcoming and relaxed. And despite it being busy, they won’t rush you to leave if you’ve settled in. 

And the coffee?

It’s smooth and rich, sourced from Toongs roaster in Hang Dong. And if you’re super lucky, your coffee might come with a furry little friend…there are sometimes kittens hanging around upstairs.

Yes, please!

With plenty of seating options, good WiFi signal and heaps of outlets, the Larder Cafe and Bar is a great option to get through your working day.

5. Birds Nest Cafe Chiang Mai

🛋️ Seating: Great, big wooden table and chairs

📡 Wifi: Good

🔌 Power: There’s a few around if you look

The Birds Nest Cafe has an open feel to match the jazz music they play. They hold regular music evenings and country themed buffets if you’re feeling an after hours outing.

Some of the best food in Chiang Mai can be found here and the laid back attitude will suit any mood. The coffee is a little below par but the food more than makes up for it. Offering a range of baked goods, breakfast, lunch and buffet options that will more than satisfy. Need to hunker down and get some serious work done?

The Birds Nest is an awesome spot to spend a working day. Closing their doors at 7 p.m., you might even be able to sneak in a break on one of their sofas.

6. Roastniyom

Whether you prefer to hit the laptop early morning or find you’re most productive during the evenings, this little gem caters to all types of digital nomads. 

Opening their doors at 7 a.m. and closing their doors at 8 p.m. the crew at Roastniyom are sure to cater your remote needs. They offer mild but tasty coffee and the menu includes a variety of flavored cappuccinos and rich signature roasts. The food selection, though, can be a little limited, offering only a selection of cakes and biscuits.

And your linkage to the outside world? Look no further then Roastniyom for fast internet, a remote workers staple for being efficient. How about the vibe though? The atmosphere is very quiet, I’m not sure how they managed to keep the bustling street noise out but they’ve done a great job. Take a bow whoever built those beautiful soundproof walls, we digital nomads salute you!

R&B can be a popular spot over the weekends but if you can manage to get there outside of lunch or dinner hours it can be a great place to work. With garden seating, beetroot cappuccinos and a decent sized menu, they are sure to keep you well fed and caffeinated. 

The atmosphere is great with plenty of different seating options to choose from. And I found the music inspiring while writing.As for the internet? It will get the job done. R&B hosts writer workshops on Sunday afternoons, offering a great space to meet like-minded people or to expand your literary knowledge. Awesome!
